Congratulations to Gabriella Grizzaffi!

To me, Bohemia is more than the place where I live. It is the community that has shaped my childhood, my values, and the person I am becoming. When I think of Bohemia, I think of a town built on connection, tradition, and people who genuinely care for one another. It is a place where neighbors show up, where volunteers make a difference, and where small moments such as school concerts, holiday events, and community gatherings become lasting memories. Growing up here has taught me that community is created through kindness, service, and shared experiences.
Some of my earliest memories come from the schools, churches, and organizations that anchor Bohemia. From attending St. John Nepomucene to participating in local school events, I have always felt supported by the adults, teachers, and volunteers who dedicate their time to our town. It was here at school concerts, chorus rooms, and community performances that my love of music and the arts was truly nurtured. Teachers encouraged my passion, directors challenged me to grow, and this community gave me countless opportunities to share my voice. Their commitment inspired me to become involved myself through mentoring younger students, helping at parish programs, performing for senior residents, and volunteering at community events. Serving others in Bohemia has shown me just how strong and generous this community truly is. Here, service is not just something people talk about; it is something people live every day.
Bohemia is also a town that honors its history and the individuals who helped build it. Learning about leaders like William Tmay, Jr., who dedicated much of his life to the Bohemia Fire Department and the Bohemia Historical Society, has helped me appreciate the importance of preserving traditions and giving back. People like him remind me that the heart of Bohemia has always been its volunteers —men and women who protect, teach, support, and uplift others. I think about the fire department throwing candy canes every holiday season, a simple tradition that brings so much joy to families, and how they once responded immediately when our carbon monoxide alarm went off, reassuring us and keeping us safe. Moments like those show just how deeply our first responders care about this town. Their legacy sets an example that I hope to follow as I continue growing into adulthood.
Above all, Bohemia means home. It means walking into familiar places and always seeing a friendly face. It means teachers who encouraged me, neighbors who supported me, and community members who showed me what leadership and kindness looked like. It means a town that raised me to value service, compassion, connection, and the joy of sharing my talents with others. As I begin the next chapter of my life, I will carry Bohemia and all the lessons, traditions, and the feeling of belonging it has always given me. Bohemia is not just the place where I live; it is the community that taught me who I am. It gave me roots that keep me grounded and wings that allow me to grow, and for that, I will always be grateful.
