Ken Nocar – Bohemia Interaction with the Town of Islip 1940-1990

The Bohemia Historical Society invites our members and the public to a special presentation featuring local historian and guest speaker, Ken Nocar.

The talk will focus on a specific and transformative era in local history: Bohemia’s interaction with the Town of Islip from 1940 to 1990. This fifty-year span covers the years immediately leading into World War II, the subsequent housing boom, and the commercial expansion of the late 20th century.

During this session, we will examine the origins of our local street names and highlight the influential Bohemian individuals who shaped the community’s growth. We will also explore the history of Town of Islip-owned and operated buildings right here in Bohemia, offering a unique perspective on how local government and the community evolved together.
